Capital funding opportunities

Further to the 127m pounds set aside by the Department of Health for capital grant purposes this coming year (www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_digitalassets/documents/digitalasset/dh_131742.pdf), the government has allocated councils a share of a one-off 20m pounds for Disabled Facilities Grants to coincide with an additional 150m pounds to aid local health and social care economies with speedier and more effective hospital discharge (www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publicationsandstatistics/Lettersandcirculars/Dearcolleagueletters/DH_132040). This is welcome news and should give a boost to handyperson and HIA services (see Housing LIN case study No 54 - Safe at Home: a preventive handyperson service in Devon).
Are you in touch with your lead health and social care commissioners to make the case on how best to utilise these capital funding opportunities?
