Extra Care Housing & Intermediate Care Beds

Stephanie Furnes 29/06/11 General Housing Topics

Hi

I'm looking to gain some information on any Extra Care schemes who have some units put aside for intermediate, step down, care beds from hospital please.

I'm particularly interested in the length of stays, bed occupancy levels and the contractual agreement with health.

Would appreciate any information from schemes where this already exists.

Thanks,
Steph

Hi Steph
We are providing intermediate care within our next extra care scheme in Sunderland. They will be provided for 6 - 8 weeks depending on the individual's reablement requirements (might be slightly longer if required).

It might be easier to talk through our approach so either drop me an e:mail or give me a call:-

Hi Steph, In St Helens we have used short stay housing since 2003. We have 5 flats in two extracare schemes and 3 flats in sheltered housing. We use them for a range of issues, from hospital discharge to homelessness. If you want to contact me to discuss further my details are [log in to view email address] 01744675867 or you could contact Paula Mudd, who manages the short stay housing on a day to day basis on 01744 676349 she will be able to provide stats on usage etc

Hi Steph
In Brent we have three step down beds within two of our extra care housing schemes mainly utilised for hospital discharges or homelessness for a period of up to 10 weeks. We used to have four but due to occupancies levels we reduced this recently. The occupancy levels are good however the issue we sometimes experience is bed blocking due to slow move on. If you require any further information please contact email me [log in to view email address]. Hope that helps
