Extra Costs Commission
In the lead up to the General Election in 2015, Scope is campaigning to raise the living standards of disabled people. An important part of this is investigating and tackling the extra costs faced by disabled people and their families in day to day life.
As part of this, Scope has recently launched a year-long independent inquiry that will explore the extra costs faced by disabled people and families with disabled children in England and Wales. Robin Hindle Fisher has been appointed Chair of the Extra Costs Commission, and has brought together an expert panel of high-profile commissioners. Together they will consider the evidence and steer concrete solutions to drive down extra costs.
Call for evidence
There is a strong correlation between suitability of housing and disability-related spending, which is something that we are hoping to address as part of this Commission. What with the expertise of the Housing LIN in promoting housing choices for older people, including those with a disability, we are keen to get your insights on what you feel to be the extra costs for disabled people and their families in the area of housing as well as beyond this, along with solutions for driving these down.
The first call for evidence will run until 3rd September 2014. Your evidence and insight will inform the Commission’s final recommendations in 2015.
More information on the Commission and how to make a submission can be found at http://bit.ly/1oo4dWE. If you have any queries please email [log in to view email address].
If you could also help promote the Commission through Twitter, that would be fantastic. We are using the hashtag #extracostscommission.
