Getting the washing done in new communities

Old forum user 30/06/06 General Housing Topics

The Defra Market Transformation Programme (www.mtprog.com) is currently working on some ideas for the future of domestic laundry, both washing and drying.

We are interested in the potential of laundry services and local neighbourhood services and I therefore wondered if anyone who is working on the creation of new communities, such as ExtraCare, could let me know what arrangements are currently being made.

We're not just interested in energy and water saving measures, but how the whole issue is being tackled.

Do people provide their own washing machines and tumble driers?

Are you supplying them? If so how do you select them?

Are there communal washing machines and drying facilities?

Are there commercial or other laundrette type facilities?

Are laundry services (sheets/towels?) offered for all or part of people's needs?

Are the laundries on site or in the local community.

Any comments and information will be welcome.

Best wishes and thanks
