Report on Draft Care and Support Bill rasies housing hopes

Jeremy Porteus 19/03/13 General Housing Topics

The report of Joint Committee on the Draft Care and Support Bill was published today (19 March) and makes highly encouraging noises about the contribution housing makes in delivering health and social care. In particular recognising
- the importance of the availability of safe and settled accommodation to the health and wellbeing of individuals
- that advice to assist those navigating their way through the system should include advice on housing options such as specialist housing, accessible housing and
adaptations
- that housing is a key partner of adult care and support in market shaping and safeguarding matters, and
- to aid integration, there should be a duty to cooperate with housing authorities and housing associations, such as on the adequacy of housing provision on discharge from hospital.
