The government has issued a clear challenge to public health teams around the country; to leverage their new position within local authorities to develop stronger community partnerships for health and wellbeing.

Whether those partnerships are strategic, operational, or both, housing is an obvious place to start; it is an influential and diverse sector with enormous outreach into the community, a direct provider of care and support services to people in their own homes and in specialist accommodation, and a well evidenced offer in addressing health system pressures, promoting wellbeing, and tackling health inequalities. Yet in reality the sector can appear complex and fragmented to the uninitiated, and the prospect of 'involving housing' can be a daunting one.

Programme

This workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to housing from the point of view of local authority public health teams, outlining the different sectors, organisations, professional groups and services traditionally grouped under the 'housing' umbrella. It will also outline headline facts, figures and best practice examples to help reach your own view of housing's offer to public health, and how best to proceed in building local alliances and cooperate to deliver local priorities.
