The government have published their long-awaited response to the consultation on raising accessibility standards for new homes. This change means older and disabled people can live more independently in their own homes, with greater choice and control over their lives, and be able to work, socialise and contribute to society as fully as possible. 

This Factsheet (no 34), a collaboration between Park Grove Design Ltd and the Housing LIN, shares latest key interior design considerations when developing environments for later living which are both inviting and in-line with current design research and practice.

The Government has issued a call for evidence to help inform the development of the statutory guidance accompanying the Down Syndrome Act. The call includes a set of housing questions for people with Down Syndrome, families and carers, and professionals, including anyone working in housing. Have your say by Friday, 8 November 2022.

Organised by Design for Homes, a number of HAPPI-inspiring projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Housing Design Awards with ceremonies taking place in September. The submissions include a selection of affordable and high end accommodation for older people, from extra care housing scheme and retirement villages to almshouse provision and cohousing. The Housing LIN is proud to be a co-sponsor of HDA2022 and the quality of the shortlisted schemes demonstrate how HAPPI is now a mainstay of these awards.

We are delighted to announce that Housing LIN Cymru has become a signatory to the Design Commission for Wales’ Placemaking Wales Charter.

The inaugural meeting of the Bangla Research Advisory Group (BRAG) met on 13 July 2022 to co-design with local community participants the approach to engage with the probin community from the outset of the Amar Bari Amar Jibon project.

The Housing LIN is delighted to be an industry partner in a new 3 year research project on loneliness in ageing population tackled through smart clothing and furniture. We look forward to supporting the academic team at KCL and University of Chester recruit housing partners and also share the learnings from the resultant research.
