Age Friendly Ireland launches new resources to future proof housing for an ageing population
Our homes will need to be more universally designed to ensure that our ageing population can live comfortably at home into our later years. Age Friendly Ireland is preparing to support housing for the ageing population and today launches a new suite of resources and a brand-new website (opens new window).
Developed in collaboration with The Housing Agency, the Department of Health and Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with consultancy support and advice from the Housing LIN, the website showcases an array of information to support the development of Age Friendly Housing. The website provides a guidance of features to include in a lifetime adaptable and age friendly home, alongside case studies, research, funding information and design templates.
Drawing on our extensive experience establishing, designing, developing and managing our website and networks over the last 10 years, the Housing LIN was delighted to provide consultancy and advice to the Housing Agency and its partners about the development of the Age Friendly Homes website in Ireland.
“We hope that everyone involved in the provision of homes for older people – from local authorities and approved housing bodies to architects, other construction professionals and the general public – will find the website useful and be encourages to think more closely about the needs of our citizens as we grow older”
John O’Connor, Chief Executive Officer of The Housing Agency
Improving the Age Friendliness of our homes will have wide benefits for individuals, including health and safety issues such as reducing falls, and increasing quality of life. The new resources being launched also contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and climate action.
