HAPPI Award winner at the Housing Design Awards announced
Carlton Dene, Westminster City Council’s flagship extra care scheme, takes home the HAPPI Award at the Housing Design Awards.
Two new buildings will contain 87 homes: 65 extra care for older people and 22 general needs. Levitt Bernstein are targeting an ambitious sustainability brief, seeking Passivhaus accreditation for the general needs block and the PHI low energy standard for the extra care portion.
Many of the extra care homes are “one-bed-plus”, with additional flexible space that can be used in different ways, based on residents' requirements to enable them to age in place. Shared communal balconies overlooking the generous courtyard and roof terrace spaces provide additional shared spaces outside front doors, in line with HAPPI principles (opens new window).
We are really looking forward to featuring the winning entry at our forthcoming HAPPI Hour webinar. This session, in association with HAPPI award-winning architects, Levitt Bernstein, will draw on their guide, endorsed by The Passivhaus Trust, and showcase good practice examples of HAPPI-inspired schemes.
