The changing needs of older people from minority ethnic communities living in Scotland

This report, published by Trust, Hanover (Scotland) and Bield Housing Associations in February describes the changing needs of ethnic minority older people living in Scotland. The interviews run as part of the report were inspired by the growing demographic of ethnic minority people living in Scotland, and the recognition of the need to be more proactive in including their needs in housing and policy-related decisions.

The findings from the report suggest that Scotland's older ethnic minority population value their independence, with their ideal living situation being living independently in their own house close to local shops and GPs. The report also details findings from interviews on the topics of:

  • financial wellbeing
  • health
  • care needs and responsibilities, and
  • participation in society.
