Dementia Action Week 2024

Dementia Action Week (13 - 19 May 2024) is an awareness raising campaign. Each year, Alzheimer's Society works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to act on dementia. 

Webinar: Housing – Still Rising to the Dementia Challenge

The Dementia & Housing Working Group (DHWG) is excited to launch the inaugural webinar in a quarterly series focused on housing and dementia.

We dedicate this first webinar to the late, great, writer and activist Wendy Mitchell. Diagnosed with dementia and spending years documenting her experience, we will be forever in her debt as she won hearts and minds by advocating for living positively with dementia. This webinar addresses a range of topics, providing easy and actionable guidance to help organisations gather insights and implement them effectively. It emphasises the importance of making small changes that can make a real difference, rather than significant capital investments.

The DemECH project: Supporting people living with dementia in extra care housing

Written by Dr. Rebecca Oatley from Cardiff University and Teresa Atkinson from the Association for Dementia Studies at the University of Worcester, this Housing LIN Viewpoint (No. 107) presents valuable insights from The DemECH project.

The study, funded by the NIHR School for Social Care, delves into various extra care housing models and their potential to enhance the wellbeing of individuals living with dementia. 

This Viewpoint highlights the development of key insight booklets designed for individuals and families affected by dementia, as well as organisations engaged in providing extra care housing for people living with dementia, and adult social care commissioners and professionals.

  This Inquiry report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People pulls together the evidence presented to the Inquiry's expert Panel, the research, and analysis undertaken to understand the housing implications of people living with dementia and makes over 40 key policy and practice recommendations for dementia-readiness.
