Government agrees to meet Healthy Homes campaign with a view to better integrating health in housing and planning policy
In response to Lord Crisp’s Report Stage (opens new window) amendment to put health and wellbeing at the core of the Building Safety Bill (opens new window), Lord Greenhalgh, Government Minister in the Lords, has agreed to work with the Healthy Homes campaign to integrate health in built environment policy.
“…Of course there is a link between housing and health; the question is where to focus within the planning system and where you focus within building regulations. There is a strong opportunity to think about health and well-being in the same way that in public safety we think about “secure by design”. That is a job of work to be done and a definition is a starting point. I am happy to engage on that as a personal priority with the noble Lord, Lord Crisp.”
“I undertake to meet him and other interested parties, including my noble friend Lord Bethell, and to work on the agenda about how to bring health and well-being into the built environment.”
The Housing LIN is proud to be a signatory to TCPA’s Healthy Homes campaign (opens new window). You can also watch Lord Crisp’s presentation at the Housing LIN’s 2021 Summit and the session entitled, Healthier Homes and communities for healthier living here.
