A dozen developments that either incorporate specialist housing (such as extra care housing or retirement living) or supported housing have made it through to this year’s Housing Design Awards final on Thursday, 12 September in London. The ceremony also includes the HAPPI Award, supported by the Housing LIN.

Organised by Design for Homes, the awards will take place at United St Saviour’s Appleby Blue Almshouse in Bermondsey. It is also one of the 12 schemes up for an award.

Commenting on the announcement, the Housing LIN’s CEO, Jeremy Porteus said:

“We are proud to support the HAPPI Award. Coming off the back of the recently concluded Older People’s Housing Taskforce, it is great to see so many impressive entries that incorporate the HAPPI age-friendly design principles shortlisted. It’s a quality field, the Olympian equivalents!”

Across this year’s entries there is a good mix of affordable rent, shared ownership and leasehold housing for older people operated by almshouses, housing associations, local authorities and private operators. The architect studios for the shortlisted schemes range from 2 former RIBA Stirling Prize winners and several previous HAPPI award winners. We look forward to sharing the announcement of the 2024 HAPPI winner next month.
