To mark International Day of Older Persons (October 1st), Dr Mark Hammond, Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and Member of the Greater Manchester Housing, Planning and Ageing Group, reflects on the 'Creating Age-Friendly Developments' guide which aims to the development of more 'age-friendly' urban developments.

The guide, released by GM Housing Planning and Ageing Group, sheds light on how to embed age-inclusion into all new housing schemes. It builds off existing policy initiatives, supporting designers and developers to consider how the diverse requirements of older people might be integrated into the planning process for new residential communities.

Dr Mark Hammond also spoke at our recent HAPPI Hour webinar in association with Winkworth Sherwood, looking at the current issues facing developers and local authorities. It considered the case of whether there is a need for clearer national guidance and tools to plan and deliver more housing for our ageing population.
