Housing associations, home adaptations and independent lives: Finding ways to say yes

Housing associations, home adaptations and independent lives Finding ways to say yes cover

Brand-new guidance on delivering home adaptations in social housing, including how local authorities and housing associations can work better together has been published by Foundations, the national umbrella body for home improvement agencies in England, in partnership with Anchor Hanover, Habinteg and Taylor Wimpey.

Written by Sheila Mackintosh and Rachel Frondiguon, the new guide proposes a different way of handling DFG applications. In particular, the guide:

  • Takes an in-depth look at how adaptations are funded and delivered in the sector - including minor adaptations and use of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG).
  • Examines how funding arrangements might be improved and the delivery process made quicker and more effective.
  • When adaptations are not the right solution, seeks out how the moving process might be improved, including reference to the Housing LIN authored report for RCOT, Adaptations without Delay (opens new window), and.
  • Encourages a longer term and more strategic view of home adaptations.
