In good company: the need for Homeshare and intergenerational living has never been greater
This new Housing LIN guest blog by Caroline Cooke at Share and Care Homeshare, the largest provider of Homeshare services in England, discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic is leaving people living alone, regardless of age, feeling more lonely and isolated than ever.
She explains the need for alternative accommodation solutions within the community, and how Homeshare initiatives demonstrate the positive role of intergenerational living as an attractive housing solution for older householders looking for company and support, as well as for younger homesharers looking for a home.
Interestingly, they saw a 23% increase in new householder registrations last year, as well as an increased number of sharer enquiries, with a notable increase in enquiries from sharers considering opportunities to live in more rural locations.
