JRF - Dementia without Walls

In July, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) launched a three-year programme with the long term aim of ensuring "that the UK is a good place for those of us who have dementia to live, and live well". The £1,540K budget will be invested in three strands:

  • Strand 1 - Empowering people with dementia - JRF will support a stronger collective voice of people with dementia, with more confidence and capacity to influence attitudes, policies and provision.
  • Strand 2 - Dementia-friendly communities - JRF will aim to lead the UK as a dementia-friendly employer, contribute positively to York and Bradford's ambitions around becoming dementia-friendly and ensure that other communities across all four UK nations are informed by each other in their aspirations to become dementia-friendly.
  • Strand 3 - Thinking differently about dementia - JRF will bring different people together to explore how society can adjust and respond well to an ageing population

Four key questions are posed in this programme:

  • How does society need to change to support people affected by dementia?
  • How can our local communities change to be better places for people with dementia to live well?
  • How can JRF and JRHT be part of this societal shift, and part of making York a dementia-friendly city?
  • How can people with dementia better connect with and support each other, so their experiences can shape policy, practice and attitudes?

JRF may be putting out calls for specific pieces of work but cannot consider unsolicited proposals or requests for funding. For more information visit www.jrf.org.uk/dementia (opens new window)
