New Housing LIN blog looks at moving home in later life

In our newest Housing LIN guest blog, Dr Dominic Aitken writes about what the English Housing Survey.

Dr Aitken, Research Associate in Environmental Gerontology at Newcastle University, has written ‘On the Move in Later Life: What can the English Housing Survey tell us?’ for the Housing LIN. He uses from the data from the English Housing Survey (EHS) to extrapolate trends about people moving home in later life.

Although older people are significantly less likely to move home than younger people, the numbers are on the increase, and there is an increase in private renters moving. This reinforces calls made by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People in Rental Housing for an Ageing Population (HAPPI 5) for greater consideration to be given to the increasing number of older people who are privately renting.
