In this blog Lauren Walker, of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and member of the Housing & Ageing Alliance, highlights the critical role of home adaptations in the context of a new Disability Strategy, post-pandemic recovery, and further steps towards health and care integration.

The Strategy commits to improving the delivery of the Disabled Facilities Grant in order to accelerate the delivery of home adaptations in England and Wales. Lauren welcomes this news, as the COIVD-19 pandemic has led to delays in providing adaptations and increased waiting lists.

Similarly, she praises the RCOT’s report Adaptations Without Delay (opens new window) for recognising the need for all stakeholders to communicate and collaborate effectively to enable positive change in adaptations processes, before outlining how and why improvement and adaptations services should influence Integrated Care Systems moving forward.
