New NAO report shows concerns about value in how government is tackling homelessness

This report by the National Audit Office assesses value for money in terms of whether DLUHC (now MHCLG) is working with government departments and local authorities in a way that maximises government’s ability to tackle homelessness, deliver appropriate system leadership and support local authorities.
This report reveals worsening homelessness, with record numbers in unstable or poor-quality temporary housing. It highlights the £1.6 billion spent on temporary accommodation in 2022/23, stressing the need for a comprehensive government strategy and long-term funding to reduce homelessness and improve housing supply, as current efforts are insufficient.
