New research finds there will be a chronic shortage of housing for older people in the next five years
Real estate services firm JLL has launched its inaugural UK Seniors Housing Report, which forecasts that an ageing population and inadequate pipeline supply will mean a shortage of up to 46,000 homes in the next five years for older people in the UK.
The report finds that the sector must grow to respond to demographic drivers, which will see the number of people aged 75 and over rise by 38% by 2040. The projected deficit of between 31,500 and 45,900 units is expected to worsen as the demand for housing for older people accelerates due to longer life expectancies and increasing health concerns.
