Occupational Therapy Week 2022

This week is Occupational Therapy (OT) week. Created by The Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), OT Week aims to bring awareness to Occupational Therapists and all of the fantastic work they do.

To coincide, RCOT have launched a campaign to raise the profile of occupational therapy, called ‘Lift Up Your Everyday (opens new window)’. The campaign is about giving people the knowledge to make changes that will have a positive impact on their lives.

The Housing LIN have long been championing the role of OTs in advising on the design of new build or refurbishment of housing with care to ensure that housing can be planned to be as accessible and adaptable as possible. This is why we developed OT dedicated topic pages which include a range of useful resources, including how to prioritise and incorporate the best aspects of accessible design guidelines into new build and refurbishments.

Of particular interest should be the Adaptations Without Delay report, a RCOT guide to planning and delivering home adaptations differently. Written by Dr Rachel Russell then at the University of Salford (now at Foundations), Marney Walker, an independent Occupational Therapist, and Ian Copeman and Jeremy Porteus of the Housing LIN, the report is intended to be used by practitioners and organisations across the UK who may be contacted by disabled and older people and their families who are seeking advice or support with home adaptations.
