Parliamentary Select Committee launches Inquiry on disabled people and the housing sector
The Levelling Up, Homes and Communities Committee has this week launched an Inquiry on disabled people and the housing sector. It is accepting calls for evidence until 21 September 2023.
The Inquiry will examine the role of Government, local councils and developers in ensuring the delivery of suitable housing for disabled people and what the Government can do to support disabled tenants in the private rented sector in England. It will also look at the National Planning Policy Framework and its compatibility with the Equality Act 2010 when building housing.
Lastly, the Inquiry intends to examine the progress made since the publication of the findings (opens new window) in 2022 of the Government’s consultation, ‘Raising accessibility standards for new homes’. The Housing LIN is a founding member of Housing Made for Everyone (HoME) Coalition calling on the adoption of Part M4(2) of the Building Regulations as a minimum as part of the coalition’s 7 point charter.
