Rural Housing Awareness Week 2021

For this year’s Rural Housing Awareness Week, we would like to reflect on the Rural Housing for an Ageing Population: Preserving Independence (HAPPI 4) findings established by the APPG for Housing and Care for Older People back in 2018.

The special Inquiry considered recommendations for addressing the needs of older people living in rural areas by exploring contemporary housing needs and care problems facing older people in rural areas.

The report provides an informative reminder that the ageing population in rural areas leverage on the informal networks provided by family and friends as well as their independence and that it therefore becomes essential that policy makers and local authorities acknowledge the need for services to be brought closer together.

More recently, the Rural Housing Alliance (opens new window) have revised their rural pledge which will be shared during a webinar (opens new window) hosted by the National Housing Federation (opens new window) on Wednesday 7th July 2021.
