A pathway to supported accommodation

Young Parents Pathway (YPP) is a supported accommodation service, provided by Places for People, in South Tyneside, for young single parents, families, and expectant mothers aged 16–25. The service supports young parents from a range of backgrounds in a safe and secure environment.

Support and guidance every step of the way

At Places for People we are proud of the support and guidance people will received Young Parents Pathway. They will gain so much more than just a place to live in. Our focus is to help you to build the essential life skills they need to prepare them for the future. We will do this by working to:

  • Design a tailored support plan to help people achieve their goals
  • Enhance their parenting skills
  • Improve their budgeting skills, maximise their money and ensure they receive the right income
  • Secure move on accommodation in the local community, following a successful tenancy at the Young Parents Pathway

Learning more than just parental skills

In 2023, a young father and his 2-year-old daughter moved into YPP. He was welcomed by friendly staff, who showed him around the service and helped him to settle into his new home. During his time living at the service, the man has learned a lot of new skills including how to budget and pay bills, and how to manage a home whilst looking after a child.

What he said about YPP

“My experience at the service has been nothing but positive. I have made so many memories and all the people I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know from all the staff and my neighbours. I love this service and the opportunities it opens. YPP feels more like a community and with its big group of friends and staff, it feels homely, inviting, and welcoming.

Staff understand that this is our home, and they go above and beyond to make this safe and homely and are always on hand to support any way they can. I am now set to move into my own home soon and I can take all the skills I have learned with me for life. I am excited to start my next chapter.
