TACT offers new programmes to help improve your skills in assessing home adaptations
TACT (Trusted Assessing and Care Training) (opens new window) offers a range of programmes designed to improve skills in assessing for equipment and adaptations at a range of levels and for a wide variety of roles involved in enabling older and disabled people to stay at home.
With growing demand and waiting lists in many areas, it is vital that everyone involved makes the most of the opportunities they have to improve people’s lives.
Occupational Therapists (OTs) - New Courses
Occupational Therapists (OTs) are essential in finding suitable solutions, especially in complex cases. For newly qualified OTs, those changing roles and specialisation or wanting to improve their confidence in assessing for independence in the home they have two brand new courses.
- Equipment Refresher for OTs is a one-day course that reviews the latest products and technologies in equipment and adaptations, aimed at boosting OTs’ confidence in assessing and prescribing.
- In reablement, a short-term booster programme helps people to regain the skills and techniques to remain at home. The “Reablement for OTs” course offers a blend of theory and practical skills, supporting OTs with risk-assessed approach and assisting their reablement support worker colleagues.
- One critical factor in successful equipment and home adaptations adoption is the demonstration and tailoring that happens during installation and delivery. Their new “Trusted Installer: Installing and Demonstrating Minor Adaptations” two-day, level two course is designed to train staff in this field. As part of their wider Trusted Assessor programme, it focuses on measuring, tailoring and showing people how to get the best from their new adaptations.

A range of new services to support transformation programmes
More than a training company, TACT is an OT-led organisation passionate about supporting the development and transformation of services for older and disabled people at home and reducing waiting times for adaptations. They have introduced two new services to address common challenges.
Their “Trusted Assessor: OT Supervision” service supports organisations with limited access to OTs to support their newly qualified Assessors by offering guidances and competency checks in the months following training and accreditation.
For larger organisations with in-house OTs interested in developing their own internal Assessors, TACT offers a “Trusted Assessor: Train the Trainer” programme. The programme provides a comprehensive suite of materials and ongoing support for OTs to deliver accredited training programmes to internal staff.
And for organisations with accredited Trusted Assessors needing a refresher they have two new one-day courses. TACT recommends annual refreshers to ensure that Assessors are up to date with the latest thinking and practice. Their “Trusted Assessor: Refresher” courses are designed for Assessors accredited at levels three and four.
