TAPPI Cast – 5 May 2023
Welcome to TAPPI Cast, our weekly update on the 'Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation' (TAPPI) project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people.
Updates from our Testbeds:
Last week the Bield TAPPI team hosted our monthly coffee morning with tenants at West Port. We were joined by Ray and Hannah from Cambridge University who interviewed the tenants about digital literacy and their concerns. We have made great progress in getting responses from staff on the digital literacy survey and the TAPPI Programme Board had some useful discussions about further increasing survey responses from our tenants.
Preparations are now underway for the formal opening of the digital hub on 17th May. The TAPPI Programme Board met yesterday to discuss this as well as progress with each of the three challenges. We also issued the Cambridge University survey to all Bield staff and have already received over 100 responses.

The future of ageing: ethical considerations for research and innovation
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics, an independent body that examines and advises on ethical issues arising from developments in bioscience and health, has published the findings of an in-depth inquiry exploring the ethical issues that arise in relation to the role of biomedical research and technological innovation in helping people to live well in old age.
With references to TAPPI, the report identifies the values, principles, and factors that are ethically significant in relation to research that seeks to influence people’s experience of ageing, and proposes an ethical framework to help everyone involved in research and innovation related to ageing think through the ethical implications of their work and to suggest practical and actionable steps for change.
