TAPPI Cast – 8 September 2023
Welcome to TAPPI Cast, our weekly update on the 'Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation' (TAPPI) project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people. Includes updates from our 6 Testbeds, Resources and Events of interest.
This week we were delighted to host the fourth and penultimate TAPPI Steering Board meeting bringing together a diverse group of UK and international experts. We thank Professor Roy Sandbach OBE for chairing this session!
Updates from our Testbeds:
Residents at Llys Y Werin had a new experience recently, when they welcomed the TAPPI Project’s videographer, Chris, into their homes.
Chris (seen here with Marilyn) spoke to residents and Pobl colleagues about their thoughts on TEC and how the project is having an impact so far. It was a great opportunity for individuals to share their stories and everyone is really excited to see the final video in a few weeks!
We held our first 'TEC Taster' Course to our Specialist Housing Service Managers this week.
The training will be touring all of our localities over the next two months to raise awareness of how technology can aid our most vulnerable customers, giving our colleagues the confidence to identify potential solutions and the knowledge to signpost to the services that can help.
Following the installation of sleep mat in our resident Michael’s bedroom, our staff noticed he had high sleep apnoea readings. Since then staff have helped him lose weight and the apnea is no longer an issue. It has completely disappeared!
Without the sleeping mat we would never have known this and Michael would have progressed to having to use a machine each night.
"I was told I had high sleep apnoea by staff. Since I have lost weight I am really pleased as the apnea is no longer an issue."
