The Department of Health and Social Care sets out a vision for a digitally enabled health and social care system
Yesterday, the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) published its plan for digital health and social care that sets out a vision for a digitally enabled health and social care system and how we can achieve it.
One of the stated aims included supporting independent healthy lives by increasing digital connection and providing more personalised care to support people to monitor and better manage their long-term health conditions in their own homes, enabling them to live well and independently for longer.
Jeremy Porteus, Chief Executive of Housing LIN, commented:
"We welcome the DHSC's plan to enable people to be better supported by technology in the home. Technology enabled care will continue to advance exponentially, particularly following the COVID-19 crisis, as it adopts a digital approach to support more personalised and preventative solutions for wellbeing. And with the formation of Integrated Care Systems this week, this approach inevitability brings housing, health and social care closer together in an effort to enable vulnerable and older adults to live independently and improve the safety of those living in their homes.
The government's plan for digital health and social care is timely as the Housing LIN embarks on the second phase of Technolog for an Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation (TAPPI) (opens new window) in partnership with the TEC Services Association and funded by The Dunhill Medical Trust. We hope that this next critical stage in the pursuit to coproduce residents a benchmark for what 'good' looks like in technology for housing and care will ensure that the evidence gathered in Phase 1 is built upon and used to create a TAPPI Framework.
In the meantime, the Housing LIN continues to host a variety of resources, tools and best practice examples on how technology enable care and housing is being used. We also excitedly anticipate next week's HAPPI Hour webinar on Technology enabled care and housing: making the connection (opens new window) in association with Tunstall Healthcare taking place on Tuesday, 5 July 2022 4:00pm - 5:00pm."
