The Research Launch on Housing for People with Learning Disabilities
We were thrilled to host a diverse group of familiar and new faces at yesterday's Oxford launch of the "Renting Your Own Place" research, conducted in collaboration with Learning Disability England, the University of Bristol, My Life My Choice, and York People First.
The event, co-chaired by Lois Beech, Consultancy and Partnership Manager at Housing LIN, and Paul Scarrott, trustee of My Life My Choice, featured a lineup of insightful and inspirational speakers discussing housing for people with learning disabilities. Our speakers included:
- Becca Cooper, a self-advocate from York People First (opens new window), who generously shared her personal housing journey.
- Deborah Quilgars, Senior Research Fellow and Dr Eppie Leishman, Research Associate at School for Business and Society, University of York who officially launched the Renting Your Own Place research, walking us through the research findings and recommendations (opens new window).
- Rachael Hall, Membership and Engagement Lead at Learning Disability England (opens new window), who provided valuable insights into "Action Towards Good Life" and the fundamental principles of creating a nurturing home.
- And the panel members Ian Gilders, Executive Director of Housing at Advance (opens new window), and Gail Hanrahan, Programme Manager at Family Support Network (opens new window), who offered their expertise on the subject.
The slides are now available to download here.
And if you missed this event, don't worry! You can catch the virtual launch held earlier this year.
