Top 5 Wishes for 2025 | No.1 Boost Supply: Develop a New Generation of Independent Living
With government setting indicative housing targets for every local planning authority to achieve housing growth in new planning guidance, as highlighted in our research for the Learning Disability and Autism Housing Network, A lifeline for lifetime independence, we also need to plan a significant increase in independent living housing options for people with a learning disability and autistic people.
From grouped or supported housing to shared lives or living independently with support in ordinary housing, it will require greater sector coordination and coproduction with people to ensure the right strategies, investment and delivery plans are in places to boost the supply of homes that always fall outside the mainstream housing market.
We therefore call on Government to set aside £300m in the upcoming Spending Review to enable local communities build their capacity to plan for and build a new generation of transformative independent living solutions.
