Top 5 Wishes for 2025 | No.5 A Strong Voice: Appointing an Older People’s Commissioner
As a signatory of the Housing and Ageing Alliance and its’ 15 Point Plan, the Housing LIN supports the call for a Commissioner of Older People in England.
We believe a Commissioner for Older People and Ageing would be an independent champion for the voices and issues experienced in later life and ensure better representation of older people across government policy and decisions. For example, it would help amplify the importance of the recent Older People’s Housing Taskforce and offer additional accountability in support of our older citizens.
To demonstrate the value of a Commissioner, read the former Older Persons’ Commissioner for Wales, Helena Herklots' Housing LIN guest blog. We now call on government to introduce consultation this year proposing the creation of an independent Commission for Older People in England.
