We support Mentel Health Awareness Day 2022!

Mental Health Week 2022 cover

Today is World Mental Health Day 2022, when the issue of mental health is given a global platform.

Each year, World Mental Health Day focuses on a particular theme. This year, as set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.’

This includes older adults and working age adults with mental health problems.

In support, we draw attention to our Mental Health and Housing webpages supported by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) where we share how suitable housing options and related services, and timely support interventions can respond to the needs of people with specific mental health conditions and improve their health and wellbeing.

In particular, the MHF's report, 'All the lonely people' published in May that explores what it’s like to be lonely: its causes, consequences and the groups of people who are more likely to experience severe and enduring loneliness.

The report looks at the strong links between loneliness and mental health and shares the stories of nine individuals who often or always feel lonely. It considers the circumstances, situations and life events that can increase our risk of loneliness and sets out new findings around the public’s understanding of loneliness and who it affects.

It also shares some of the ways people cope with loneliness day-to-day and explains why we need to address practical, structural and psychological barriers to connection if we want to reduce the burden of loneliness and prevent its impacts on mental health.

World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.

For more information on how housing related services and support, as well as the way we design how our homes, can respond to the needs of people with specific mental problems, both working age and older people, please visit our Housing Options webpage here
