World Autism Awareness Week
This week sees Autism Awareness week. With our expertise in the field of specialist housing we have a wide range of resources relating to independent living and housing for people with autism.
We have a wide range of resources relating to Autism on our specialist Learning Disabilities pages. Here you can find a large amount of information about independent living and specialist housing for people with Autism.
We also work with the NHS England on specialist housing, advising a selected number of Transforming Care Partnership localities on options on housing, and helping them to develop their housing plans. You can find out more about the work that we do for Transforming Care Partnerships by downloading our brochure.
We recently published Housing LIN Case Study 151, ‘Building the right homes for adults with learning disabilities and autism in Oxfordshire’.
This case study describes two innovative supported housing schemes that were recently delivered by Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council. The accommodation in Bicester and Banbury offer 12 purposefully designed apartments for adults with learning disabilities and autism. This case study describes the planning, commissioning, and design of the homes, and will be of interest to anyone working with adults with learning disabilities and autism.
Did you know that the Housing LIN also offers training around issues relating to Autism? We offer a one-day course ‘Autism – some different perspectives’. Designed for people who want to take their knowledge about Autism a step further, the course aims to really put you in touch with the issues faced by people with Autism, their parents and carers; and to offer ways of working with them that will both improve your knowledge and increase your confidence.
The Housing LIN exists for its members, and we welcome your input. If you have suggestions about examples of best practice relating to Autism that would you like to see the Housing LIN cover, or you have an idea for a blog or a case study you would like to see us publish, then please get in touch with us. We are always looking for opportunities to advance our members’ learning and understanding.
