Baytree House
London,
London & Quadrant Housing Trust
Description of Scheme
Baytree House received £500k DH ECH fund to upgrade the existing sheltered housing, including improving communal facilities and flats. It offers housing with care and support for older people, split over three floors with 30 one-bedroom flats and four two-bedroom flats.
The main aim of the scheme is to promote independent living with additional care packages as and when required. The scheme offers good quality homes for life and, for those requiring it, care is provided on site by the care team.
The scheme has been specifically designed for adults aged 55 years and above who require support and care to live independently in their own homes. The scheme is able to accommodate frail elderly tenants with a full care package.
All flats are adapted for wheelchair users and the first and second floors are accessible by two lifts. The scheme benefits from emergency alarms in each room and TV and telephone points, in every flat. Tenants also have use of two communal lounges with adjacent kitchens, guest room and computer with Internet access.

Relevant Local Strategy
Baytree was the pilot extra care service and this has been extended to the upgrading of an additional 200 units of extra care in the area
The expansion of extra care is part of the Waltham Forest Supporting People Strategy and Waltham Forest Housing Strategy to meet the increased needs of older people with high care needs, to ensure people are given the support to remain independent as long as they wish. They are committed to promoting extra care services as an alternative to residential care and are working closely with health partners to ensure provision assists in intermediate care.
