Description of Scheme

This development consists of 2 one bed adapted bungalows that cater for occupants requiring the full time use of a wheelchair and occupants with complex needs.

The adapted bungalows are located at the heart of a large new build development, which in itself is serviced by a range of shops, pub/restaurant, community hall, pavilion and public open space.

The bungalows have level or ramped (between 1:15 and 1:20) access at front and rear of properties together with a driveway which allows space at the side for wheelchair transfers. There are rollover thresholds at front and rear doors and door hardware (handle, keyhole, spyhole etc) are set at a height suitable for wheelchair users. A wheelchair turning space of 1500mm is accounted for in all rooms and the ceilings in bedrooms, level access shower rooms and lounge are suitable for fitment of ceiling track hoists (ceiling track hoists also fitted).

Doorways have been widened to give 900mm clear opening width and low window sills with catches within reach from wheelchair have been fitted. Consumer units are also within easy reach from a wheelchair. Storage space has also been provided that charge a wheelchair. Assisted bathing facilities with overhead shower as well as height adjustable wash basins have also been considered. The kitchen is also wheelchair accessible.

The Kingsgate developments are located in the town of Amesbury in Wiltshire within the heart of a large new build development.

Proximity

The Kingsgate Development is serviced by a local centre, inclusive of a mini supermarket. This is within walking distance from the adapted bungalows.

Relevant Local Strategy

This scheme is not an Extra Care Scheme. The Adapted Bungalows however are affordable rented housing secured in perpetuity and have been constructed for occupants with the need of full time use of a wheelchair, or who have complex needs.

Care Services

The bungalows are built to cater for occupants requiring the full time use of a wheelchair and occupants with complex needs. Each of the occupants within the adapted bungalows are subject to a 24 hour care programme.
