Palmer Court
Nottingham,
Nottingham City Council
Description of Scheme
Palmer Court is a new Independent Living block, comprising of 54 flats, at the site of the former Lenton Court and garages. The name Palmer was chosen by the residents of Newgate Court from shortlist developed by the Lenton History Society.
Residents intending to move into the new accommodation are being consulted on colour schemes to help tenants recognise their floor/area. To minimise fire risk in the properties, mobility scooters will be stored at dedicated storage points at the ground floor/semi-basement level. In order to reduce the risk to our tenants there will be no provision/connection for gas cookers. There will also be sprinklers fitted to all the apartments and bungalows.
Every apartment either have a balcony or a patio and will be wet room ready ie will have a bath installed but can easily be converted into a wet room. All the bungalows will have a wet room. All the bungalows are two bedrooms along with 36 of the apartments, space standards are generous and range from 52² - 82m².

Relevant Local Strategy
Nottingham City Council has recognised that older people wish to remain living in the community in their own accommodation and do not see residential care as a positive option for their care and support as their needs increase.
As a result Nottingham City Council's strategy for the accommodation of older people supports the development of specialist housing in the city in order to improve the housing choice for older people. With options available such as independent living schemes, extra care schemes and bungalows.
Useful Local Statistics
The regeneration of the Lenton site not only includes an independent living scheme and 16 bungalows but also includes a range of 1 and 2 bedroom flats and 2 and 3 bedroom houses. The development will bring a wider mix and range of housing, encouraging families to move into the area and older people to remain.Care Services
Mobile support officers on site as well as access to 'Nottingham On Call'.Facilities
The scheme's communal lounge and dining facilities will provide meeting space for residents and visitors. Additional flexible communal space has been designed into the scheme and the decision on its final use will be resident influenced.
The Independent Living Co-ordinators visiting the scheme will visit the scheme and make sure all our services are working together, as well as working with our partners in the City Council, Police, NHS and local voluntary groups to improve residents' quality of life.
Dedicated activity co-ordinators would develop a wide range of events, training schemes, exercise and other programmes. This works well in other parts of the country - helping tenants stay mentally and physically fit makes sense.
Our mobile support officers will help in an emergency - for example if a tenant had to go to hospital and needed more help immediately afterwards. And Nottingham On Call would continue to offer the same vital service.
