Description of Scheme

The scheme comprises 65 individual flats with communal facilities including a restaurant, lounge, assisted bathrooms, shop, hairdressers and treatment rooms. All of the flats are for rent. The scheme began on site in November 2009, and has a planned duration of 19 months, with completion planned for June 2011.

The scheme will be built to achieve BREEAM "Very Good" and will incorporate various products and systems to make the facility energy efficient. Dual flush toilets and taps with restricted flows will be used, along with solar panels which will contribute to the heating and hot water in the communal areas.

Each flat will have a home office and a sub meter will be used to monitor energy usage. 75% of the electrical fittings will be low energy fittings and the scheme as a whole will achieve a 9% improvement over Building Regulations requirements. The facility will also have a major leak detection system.

Where Is It?

Poplar House, Basildon is based within Northlands Park, known locally as Two Lakes. During the Summer, the park is extremely popular with local people offering a wide range of things to do.

There are many useful local shopping areas. Also, within a short distance from Poplar House, there are social clubs, a library and a leisure centre.
