Rowan Village
Meir,
Staffordshire Housing Association Ltd
Description of Scheme
At Rowan Village a specialist interior design consultant was appointed with the brief of insuring the interior scheme design reflected the needs of older people affected by cognitive impairment and those with memory loss and mental health conditions.
They were commissioned to design the decoration and select furnishings for all the communal areas to provide a modern, contemporary feel to the building. The decorations and signage incorporates visual cues to help individuals know where they are within the scheme. This has been commented on positively by residents and visitors to the scheme.
Where Is It?
The scheme was developed on the site of a former primary school and is located on the edge of a large local authority housing estate of mainly inter-war, semi-detached houses.
Residents Information
'I've lived here for 12 months now, I couldn't manage before. Here I like the gym and I've just starting volunteering in the Knitting Club, because I've always been a knitter. I help by putting people right with their knitting.'
'My husband died just before I moved in. I've settled now and I have the company I need. I like the bingo and other events and like getting on with people. I also like the quizzes and other things that keep my mind active.'
