Description of Scheme
Opened at the end of April 2007 by Television archaeologist and personality Tony Robinson, Rowanberries is a purpose-built development of modern apartments situated on Baldwin Lane in Clayton, Bradford.
The Scheme offers apartments on a range of terms. Eight are available to be purchased outright and six are available through a part-ownership scheme. The other 32 apartments are for rent. Of the total 46 apartments, ten are reserved for those with dementia, four are adapted for wheelchairs and 26 are two-bed apartments, all available to individuals and couples.
The apartments are arranged on four levels with a lift and wheelchair access throughout. There is also an adjoining Resource Centre to benefit people living in the local community and an outreach domiciliary care service for south west Bradford.
Where Is It?
Once a 'true' village in its own right, Clayton has now been absorbed into the larger Bradford conurbation. Nevertheless, locals still feel that the area has a village feel about it, with a main street that includes several traditional pubs.
There are also several shops, churches, and a nearby golf club. From the reservoir at Clayton Heights there are fine views towards the hills of the Yorkshire Dales and Bronte Country. Although not directly associated with the Brontes itself, Patrick Bronte did live in the area and would have known Clayton.
Bradford also has many fine examples of Victorian architecture which illustrate the city's impressive past and include an area known as Little Germany, the Wool Exchange and the National Media Museum.
