A piece of the housing puzzle: Context, barriers and opportunities for community housing in the north-east
This report by the New Economics Foundation addresses a gap in understanding of the potential role that community housing can play in the north-east of England.
Highlighting a range of community-led housing solutions, as well as some of the barriers to delivery, it’s findings identify key policy levers that the central government can use to elicit positive change at both local and combined authority level to support the expansion and longevity of the sector.
And drawing on the lived experience of those involved in community housing initiatives, the report found that whilst current community housing activity is small, there is an appetite for community housing in the north-east, from cooperatives and cohousing to self-build and community-led housing.
