Are homes in Wales meeting the needs of an ageing population?

This briefing paper by the Welsh Senedd provides a useful snapshot of the policies and strategies in Wales for meeting the housing needs of an ageing population.
Over and above the demographic challenges, it looks at four particular areas and sets out some of the actions to address these. They are:
- Poor quality or unsafe housing
- A shortage of accessible and adaptable housing
- A lack of housing options for older people
- Demands on health and social care services
And seven years on from the Welsh Government’s Exoert Group’s report, Our Housing AGEnda: Meeting the aspirations of older people in Wales, the briefing specifically refers to the following actions:
- tackling fuel poverty and supporting people to improve the energy efficiency of their homes through the Warm Homes Programme (opens new window);
- ensuring older people have equal access to good quality, timely adaptations that support their independence; and
- ensuring all Welsh Government grant-funded new housing complies with Lifetime Homes Standards (opens new window).
