Better homes, better lives: The role of home improvement services in boosting the nation’s health and wellbeing

This Centre for Ageing Better report summarises the findings of an evaluation that demonstrates how increased provision of comprehensive home improvement services can enable a healthier population, strengthen the resilience of public services and result in better economic outcomes.
Launched at the Good Home Hub conference in February 2025, the evaluation was carried out by a consortium led by Sheffield Hallam University, which included Foundations, CaCHE, the Building Research Establishment and the University of Stirling.
Alongside evidence from case studies, the report offers top tips for improving service delivery and expanding the support offered to residents and concludes with local and national recommendations for how to follow a roadmap for action that the report argues can transform lives while delivering significant economic and environmental benefits.
