Cohousing and the role of intermediaries in later life transitions
This article published in Ageing & Society examines the age-related challenges faced by cohousing residents, and their responses to changing care needs.
Drawing on the CHIC research project (involving the Housing LIN) and based on longitudinal qualitative data from three English cohousing communities, the findings suggest that despite the absence of formal care services, cohousing fosters well-being, reduces isolation, and extends agency. Recommendations suggest further research into care transitions and highlight cohousing’s potential as a complementary care model to family and formal services.
