Decent Homes for Ageing Well
A new graphic briefing from Care & Repair England highlights the many reasons why action is urgently needed to improve the safety, warmth and quality of existing homes.
It highlights how such action would have a significant impact on the physical and mental health of older people, reducing costs to the NHS and reducing widening gaps in life expectancy and healthy life expectancy.
And noting that ‘prevention is better than cure’ Care & Repair England is calling for (opens new window) immediate action to tackle the 2 million non-decent homes lived in by older people, 78% of which are owner occupied. More about this can be found in their joint publication with the Centre for Ageing Better called Home and Dry: The need for decent homes in later life
