Dementia-inclusive planning and design guidelines
These guidelines are a Canadian publication by Happy Cities, in partnership with the DemSCAPE project team at Simon Fraser University, offering a toolkit of urban design strategies and actions that municipalities, developers, and other community members can implement to create more dementia-friendly cities.
This document is the first of its kind in Canada to offer a comprehensive set of dementia-inclusive planning and design guidelines, focused on improving the neighbourhood built environment for people living with dementia by boosting comfort, safety, inclusion, and sense of place.
Based on six principles for dementia-friendly design, the guidelines are broken down into three design realms, organising key strategies and actions by neighbourhood, street, and detailed design scales.
