This set of materials from the Design Council provides step-by-step guidance to help Local Authorities create and implement design codes that reflect local character and foster community engagement as well as support government priorities like home building and economic growth.

The resources have been produced by the Design Council as part of the latest stage of the Design Codes Pathfinder Programme. Design codes support well-designed local places by enhancing local character, supporting vibrant and healthy communities and addressing the climate emergency and these learning materials guide coding teams through their design coding process.

The materials feature contributions from experts as well as coding teams involved in the Pathfinder Programme and include:

  • Thematic insights on design code challenges.
  • Downloadable and editable tools.
  • Case studies from programme participants.
  • A collection of seminar videos from design code experts.
