Developing a housing with support pipeline for people with a learning disability and autistic people
Informed by expert advice and case studies from local councils, the Local Government Association have published this guide to inform councils about how to develop a housing with support pipeline for people with a learning disability and autistic people.
The framework focuses on the development of housing with support for people who are Care Act eligible, as well as people with moderate or low needs who are ineligible for statutory services.
It highlights the importance of engaging with people who have a learning disability and autistic people to ask what types of accommodation they prefer. It also emphasises the importance of a partnership approach between adult social care, health, council housing departments and planners.
The guide outlines five key stages to forecasting the need for housing with support for people with a learning disability and autistic people, models of housing with support, access to general needs housing, funding sources for housing with support, partnership arrangements with registered providers and arrangements for secure affordable housing.
