Future Leaders update
The Housing LIN held the second session in its Future Leaders Network programme on 12 November 2019 in Bristol, hearing presentations from two inspiring leaders - thanks to generous sponsorship from Thirteen Group.
First, Dr Rachael Docking shared her candid and thought provoking insights from her varied career journey to date - starting with a highly successful number of years spent in academia, followed by an exciting period taking forward the Homes programme at the Centre for Ageing Better, and now a new chapter with the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. Rachael discussed the importance of self-belief, getting out of your comfort zone, and of saying 'yes' and taking up opportunities when they come your way.
Then we welcomed Paul Watson MBE, Managing Director at Guinness Care and Support, who shared his insights on the theme of 'Characteristics of successful leaders'. This fascinating presentation was a catalyst for a stimulating discussion about what makes a great leader, focusing on key ideas such as 'the courageous voice', 'being in the detail where it matters', 'creating accountability', 'clearing the path for others' and what it takes to truly influence change.
The Future Leaders will be looking forward to a further meeting in early 2020, and will be shaping up their plans for a dedicated blog series on the theme of leadership, which will be launched at the Housing LIN Annual Conference in March next year, ‘Vision 2020: New approaches to housing and ageing', and published on the Housing LIN website.
