Holistic Approach Helps People back into the Community

Location: Southwark, London

Issue: To take a more holistic approach to intermediate care facilities, with the focus on occupational therapy, gaining independent living skills and engaging with the local community.

Action: A sheltered housing scheme, residential unit and lunch club have been developed, offering both residential and day care places as a step-down facility, based at Peabody Trust housing association's Lomond House site.

Outcome: The scheme has successfully been run as a pilot project and there are plans to make it permanent. Tenants/users have been fully involved in the project to speed their progression in gaining independent living skills and maximise their ability to re-engage with the community.
